FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lifestyle Brand NYORH AGWE to Host a Pop Up Shop Celebrating the Story of 2nd Generation Immigrants
NEW YORK- July 2, 2018
Independent lifestyle brand, NYORH AGWE in partnership with Beau Monde Society will be hosting a curated pop-up shop experience on Friday, August 3rd and and Saturday, August 4th from 10am-9:30pm.
Nyorh Agwe founded her namesake brand in 2016. Her life as a nomad, an immigrant, and a citizen made her a product of multiple nations. Inspired by this lifestyle, she created the brand to celebrate the uniquely complex experiences of global citizens.
The brand is also a platform that showcases the rare craftsmanship from Cameroon. In its past efforts to impact the rising poverty rate in Cameroon, the brand has done significant work in Foumban, Bamenda, Bamessing, Buea and Mbengwi, collaborating on numerous projects with local artisans. However, the unfortunate events currently taking place in the Anglophone regions has made living and working conditions more difficult than before. In response, the brand will hold an special auction at the event for the Made in Cameroon pieces. The proceeds will go towards redirecting the brands efforts to sustain job creation for those suffering in poverty.
About the event:
DJ EPM & DJ Teddma will be spinning tunes from Congolese artists like Awilo Longomba to Cameroon’s own Charlotte Dipanda as guests experience art, food, and fashion from the perspective of a Cameroonian-American. The event will take place at Bedford Stuyvesant Museum of African Art (BSMAA) on 1157 Bedford Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11216.
Founded by Vira Jones in 2002, BSMAA has flourished into what is now “a dedication to providing an enriching educational experience of African art to an underserved community in Central Brooklyn.” With artworks from 40 of the 54 African countries, the not-for-profit art organization presents how customs and traditions within African art are reflected in other world cultures. - BSMAA
